Clearing Up The Low Carb Confusion

Low carb is a misleading term that ignores very important differences that can be found between good and bad carbohydrates.
Foods that contain simple or refined carbohydrates are usually low in nutrients. These foods include white bread, baked potatoes, soft drinks, and many sweets.
These carbs are what are called bad carbs. Bad carbs are digested quickly, casuing your blood sugar to increase and then decline a few hours later. You should limit these foods.
Good carbs, on the other hand, are complex carbohydrate foods that are loaded with nutrients. These foods include whole grains, oatmeal, legumes, and most fruits and vegetables.
Good carbs are digested slowly and can help you curb your appetite and thus lose weight.
These are foods you should eat since they keep your blood sugar levels even and help you lose weight.
A few common foods in this category are:
Whole wheat bread (1 slice)
Kellogg's All Bran cereal (1/2 cup)
Oatmeal (1 cup)
Streamed brown rice (3/4 cup)
Whole wheat spaghetti (1 1/4 cup)
Mashed potatoes (3/4 cup)
Peanuts (1/3 cup)
Whole milk (8 oz.)
Apple (1 medium)
Orange (1 medium)
Green peas (1/2 cup)
Carrots (1 large)
