Gout And Kidney Stones Are Painful
By: Richard Bleuze
So what do gout and kidney stones have in common? Not only do they both cause excruciating pain, but they are both developed from uric acid.
What are Kidney Stones? Kidney Stones (also known as renal calculi) are formed in the urinary tract and are made up of crystalline minerals. These are usually caused by blood in the urine and can cause severe pain in the stomach area, groin or flank. It is approximated that one out of every 20 people develops kidney stones at one time or another in their lifetime.
What is Gout? Gout is caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood. It is said to form from crystals from uric acid that deposits into the tissues of the body. Gout then eats away at the tissues and joints, causing inflammation and tremendous pain in the individual. Research shows that gout is one of the most common illnesses to occur throughout history. It has been said to have been around since the time of Hippocrates.
How do Kidney Stones form? When there is a decrease in urine volume or a large amount of stone-forming substances in the urine, kidney stones appear. Calcium and the mixture of oxalate or phosphate can help produce kidney stones, as well as uric acid and amino acid cystine. Not drinking enough fluids plays a big role in kidney stones forming (which causes the decrease in urine volume). Studies show that men are more likely to develop kidney stones and whites get them more often than blacks. Once men reach into their 40s, their chances of getting kidney stones are high. When they get into their 70’s their risk increases even more. And those who have already developed the illness are subject to recurring kidney stones.
What does Gout have to do with Kidney Stones? Kidney stones have a lot in common with gout, but what everyone should really know is that gout can lead to the development of kidney stones. They are both formed from the same causes such as Dehydration Uric acid Kidney Failure Alcohol
